Fic Rec: Puddle Jumping

I recently read a fic from front to back and I was blown away.

I'm behind in reading some of these stories, but in my defense I'm busy. I'm a very busy beta, banner maker, RMP master and oh yeah, a mom with a RL job.

Over the last week or so I read "Puddle Jumping" by 107YearOldVirgin. It's actually been over a week since I finished and I wanted to process all my thoughts before I sat down to write this.

Oh, and Amazing.

Wait... Thought-provoking (hyphenating makes it one word, right?)

If you've ever read a fic rec from me, I'm not about spoilers, so I try to give you my thoughts without giving away too much. In this case, I do need to reveal some of the plot in order to accurately tell you how amazing I found this entire fic.

This story, in my most basic lingo, is about love. About absolutely KNOWING what you want and NOTHING will stand in your way to get it. Of course there are other things going on, but basically..it's finding what you want and fighting for it. Being honest about feelings and just not fucking letting go.

I was moved. Beyond moved. Let me tell you why. This Edward was nothing like I ever read....and you know what? So was Bella. I've read Edward the Dom, the Sub, the Asshole, the Rich Guy, the Emotional Guy....But this was Edward, the guy with Aspergers. And I don't want to label him as that, but my point in doing that is to let you know that it was NOTHING that I had encountered.

Now 107 (as I will call her because I am lazy to type it out each time) wrote this beautiful tale of love, and not just any love....but young, all consuming, true love. Yeah, he did have a mental disability (forgive me if that is not PC - I'm not trying to start a debate) but the way she wrote it made me look beyond that. I loved him more for his literal POV on everything....but with that came his brutal honesty. It was endearing and heart warming. It wasn't a character that played games, or kept you wondering what he was up to. If he thought it, he said it.

And this leads to Bella. By far, one of the best Bella's I've seen...She was strong. So strong that I wanted to hug her. How many teenage girls in love could be so consistently logical? Yeah, she had her moments of crazy thoughts, but it took one look at him, one reflection of something he did to ground her and remind her of how he needs to be dealt with. I loved her. I wished that when I was her age I had an ounce of the maturity that she has. I loved how she adapted things to suit him, but it wasn't sacrificing what she wanted. She wanted him. Anyway she could have him. What more could one ask for? What would you do for the one you are destined to be with?

It was amazing how much the characters grew throughout this story. It truly was a story that came full circle. His emotional progression was fantastic and realistic. Her being the thing that grounded him..and vice versa. All characteristics aside, this was a love story at it's finest. Two people that were meant to be together and despite their differences, complimented each other.

Love knows NO bounds. This was a testament to that. I adored this fic to no end. Again, I know I'm late, 107 is iconic to the Fanfic world, and I am late to the party. Better late than never, AMIRITE?

If you've not read it...do so. You'll fall in love with the characters as much as I did. I also would like you to read her author's note about the story too...she says it so much better than anyone ever could.

Enjoy this story, I did. It's a nice, fast read that leaves your heart swelling with emotion.

My First Interview!

So this fic has been around for awhile, but I've only had the pleasure of reading it in it's entirety recently.

I'd like to start off by saying that this has become one of my favorites...a fic that I would rec to anyone.

Oh, you want to know which one?

I suppose I should tell you.

The Screamers by KiyaRaven

I started this fic just a few weeks ago and it quickly became something I craved everyday. I woke up and the first thing I wanted to do was read/review the next chapter. I lost myself in this story so deeply.

First of all you get sucked in, all consuming, the very first chapter. Edward, the fabulous Rock Star meets the most unlikely person that is about to change his life....and hers. That moment when 'the screamers' guided him into a moment, an alley, that would alter his life forever, thrusting him into a new realm of feeling, emotion and the courage to be a better man. But it's not about just him....Bella has a story too. A painful tale of survival, making her resistant to the changes in her own life. Two people, from very different worlds but struggling to overcome the pasts that have tortured them.

I won't say too much, I refuse to spoil a fic that way, but do trust me. A troubled superstar meets the most unlikely girl and what ensues will keep you riveted.

You will laugh, cry, maybe yell a little, I sure did. It's a story of growth, acceptance, trust and letting go of the past. It makes you question if you could endure, if you could forgive, if you could survive things that test your heart to its breaking point. Can you give up the tragedy of the past to embrace the future that awaits?

The depiction of the characters is hilarious, consistent and wonderfully executed. KiyaRaven paints a beautiful story of discovery...self worth...and most importantly love. There is a brilliant amount of humor involved that lightens the mood, but never takes away from the message...and that to me was... Growth. Promise. Letting go. Love.

Read if you haven't. I promise you will love it as much as I did. Take a ride with these two and witness the incredible bond and follow them on a path of self discovery and watch as their connection grows and how they mature as individuals to accept the lives they have been dealt.

Will their perfect salvation be realized? Will it fall apart around them and lead them to realize they are who they are?

Just read.

I fell in love with it right away and loved every minute of it. I can honestly say that I would gladly read this again and find a million more things I love about it.

I've got another fic that I am in love with and I want to share it with all of you.

This story came to me as a beta. I have worked on the author's previous stories and was so happy to hear that she was starting a new one and asked me to be her beta.

If you've read my bio, you know that I am really an E/B story lover, with a few exceptions. And this story is the epitome of my ideal.

My Perfect Mr Imperfect by xrxdanixrx is one of my top 5 fics right now. First of all, she is a fabulously detailed writer. It's not all about lemons - it's a story. She builds up to that. There is an undeniable, strong, realistic substance to her fics. I will get to her others later, because trust me, you will want to read them all.

In MPMI, Bella works for a successful auction house and is in love with her boss....Jasper. I know, I know...it's not Edward, but sit tight. Good things come to those who wait. Her and Jasper have cooled off...though the hope is still there for her.

She meets the disheveled, flannel wearing, scruffy friend of Jasper who is a new client of their business. He's not her type at all...yet, there is something there.

The story is so smooth and concise. It is full of the perfect ratio of angst, drama, happiness to keep you wanting more. You want to love/shake/squeeze/lock them in a room all at the same time. It's a satisfying story of finding a new love, stepping outside the box...letting go and trying to trust your emotions.

Dani is a wonderful author that weaves a tightly knit, perfectly paced story of self discovery, finding true love and determination to fight for what you want. The past may have a hold on you, but if you find that special someone, can they make the future better? You'll know if you read it.

This story is not complete, but trust me...you need to read it. Give yourself something to look forward to each week as she updates regularly (I know this for a fact).

Give it a read...I've never steered you wrong and I certainly wouldn't start now. Find out how love can find you in the most Imperfect situation.

Before I begin with this rec, I do need to amend my previous statement about being only an Edward/Bella fic reader. This story does not fall under that category nor does another of my fave stories that I will be reviewing next...so you have to wait for that one.

No, I'm not a liar, but there are exceptions to every rule.

To let you know ahead of time, Love Between Sexes by EFC is a slash fic...ya know...same sexes? This happens to be an Edward / Jasper story. Now for those of you who don't know me that well, those two are my two favorite Cullens in the Saga. Edward, because, well, duh. Jasper for his gorgeous smirk and southern drawl - no not his hair, though I did like his Eclipse 'do' way better than any other, but I digress.

Let me get back on track.

Now, I've dabbled in a tiny bit of slash here and there but nothing had captured my attention so wholly. I was on Twitter one day (I spend quite a bit of time there) and happened to tweet that I wanted to read some slash...was in 'the mood', yeah? One of my friends, I Am Kate, immediately rec'd this fic to me and raved about it, so I HAD to check it out.

And from the very second I started it...I was hooked.

I devoured the fic in just a few days, something I usually don't have the liberty of doing, but I honestly couldn't pull myself away. I was asked to be a guest reviewer on The Fictionators and, of course, jumped at the chance.

A little summary: (from my head, not the author's words)

Edward and Jasper were college roommates that reunite years later over a business trip (for Edward), both married, but the time spent together again forces them to remember the past and the feelings that come with the memories.

(The following is from my guest review)

This has become one of my favorite fics that I’ve ever read, and I’ve read a lot of great stories. I sobbed, hugged, laughed myself through this wonderful story full of raw emotions, heartache, longing, and the difficulties of self discovery, desire and the barrier of sexuality.

After I finished the final chapter I realized something – and it hit me like a g'damn ton of bricks. This story became so much more to me than just a slash fic – I actually forgot in the end that there was even a gender issue; it became a true, beautiful, and perfect love story. A love story about two people that were lost in their separate lives, living with a memory that never seemed to fade, and searching their souls and their hearts for what they really wanted…needed. Two normal people that were lost, questioning themselves and discovering that life isn't always the way you planned it. Surprises happen, things change and it becomes all about whether you take a chance on it, take a leap into the unknown, or let it pass you by.

I fell in love with both Edward and Jazz all over again and ached for them as their lives were in different places, their hearts wounded, their minds tangled, and I hoped for a perfect outcome that would make them both happy.

EFC is a talented writer and told a seamless, realistic story that captured me from Chapter One. Every detail, back story, every chapter, just fit so perfectly, there was never an awkward transition or moment – beautifully written. I love being so captivated and drawn into a fic that I abandon all other responsibilities as I did with Love Between Sexes. I felt every emotion along with the characters, snotted on a lot of fucking tissues as the tears blurred my vision of my screen and laughed so hard I had to pee.

If you’ve not read this story, I urge you to do it. Like right now. You certainly won’t be disappointed. I honestly don't think I've rooted for a HEA ending so hard in my life...did it happen? You will have to check it out.

My lips are sealed (well, now that I've babbled on and on).

This will forever be a story that I could read again and again and love it every time. I can’t say enough about it and constantly recommend it to anyone who will listen!

So, I read some fanfiction. Right? I've been active in the fandom for over a year and a half and have read so many stories I've lost count. Some of them have stuck with me, left me wanting more, had me hanging for every new update. I've been rec'd a lot of fics, beta for a lot, and stumbled upon several that I adore. I wanted a place to share some of my favorites because I'm all about spreading the love.

Enough of my jabbering, here is my first fic review.

Let me start this off with three words:

Dead Confederates by Goldenmeadow

This fic fell in my lap one day on Facebook and it took me some time to actually get to sit down and read it, as I am very busy in my RL and OL Life.

But...damn.

I am so glad that I did.

If I could say one thing about this fic it would be this:

This is one of the best/different/entertaining portrayals of the Cullens I've read. I want to be surprised, excited and satisfied. This does it for me.

I've never met an Edward like this. He is rough, crass, sexy and isn't afraid to whip it out and take care of himself. And that is exactly why I love it. Each character is different. It's not the 'proper' Edward you will find here...no. It's not the clumsy Bella that trips up over everything...no.

It's Eddie, don't call him Edward. Please, don't call him Edward.

Bella is tough, independent, knows what she wants.

Alice isn't the super sweet, adorable pixie that everyone automatically loves, which we always see.

And Esme? Well, I won't say a lot about her, you have to see for yourself. She. Is. Priceless.

From the very beginning it promises to be different from anything you've ever read. Don't be scared, embrace it. I'm not entirely sure I could ever do this story justice with my meager words, but I will certainly try.

DC has climbed its way into my faves very easily. Not only is there the fact that the characters are out of the 'norm' but there is real substance. A plot. There's conflict...humor (lots of it), sexy times (even more of those) but it is well written, draws you in to the point that you can't seem to hear the things that people around you are saying. I've become so passionate regarding this beer drinking, cussing, monkey stroking vampire and his siblings. The desire and need for this tough,human Bella is still there...but there is more to it. There is substance. There is history. There is suspense. It leaves you not only wanting to see more of the two of them together, but to know why. Why is he so drawn to her? Why is she so important to them all?

Is it complete?

No...

Oh, wait, don't fret. There are plenty of deliciously long chapters for you to read..and if you do catch up there's more!

That's right, more!

Rebelward Without a Cause is a series of outtakes, character developments, and fun bits to read to entertain and more importantly, give you some insight into the story chapters. Talk about back stories...these are the cream of the fucking crop. Why is Alice the way she is?

Ssshhhh...I won't tell.

You have to read to find out. ;)

So go do it.

Now.

Take a little trip to the Deep South, kick your feet up in Eddie DcCullen's double-wide and hold on tight.

Trust me, you will be glad you did it.

Well, as most of you probably know, I love Twilight.

I've been accumulating some Twi-goodies for almost 2 years and felt that part of my treatment for my addiction would be to share with my fellow Twi-drunks.

This is from the World Premiere of Eclipse. I got an early screening pass from Nordstrom's and was able to see an early screening (9pm Pst) the night of the release...it was fucking awesome. I had the sweet shirt, great company and the golden fucking ticket.

On top of all my great goodies, I even spent an amazing weekend in FORKS celebrating, sight-seeing and, of course, drinking to all things Twilight. It's been an amazing ride so far and I can't wait more.

Ode to Writers

I have been thinking about a few things lately.

I am a huge reader...HUGE. I love fan fiction, it has literally changed my life - judge me as you will.

I have been involved with it for a year now, and the talent out there never ceases to amaze me...ever. There are some very gifted writers out there that really take the chance and put themselves out there for others to either love or hate! That takes balls...I mean, serious balls.

But lately, I have been bopping around sites that house my fave Twilight fan fiction, trying to find some new stories, some new authors, and have been really put off.

I won't name any authors, because that's not my style, but let me just say that I have severely decreased my reading because of the attitudes of the writers.

I can't believe the amount of utter disregard and disrespect that some authors have for their readers. I mean, you put yourself out there, you are obviously doing it for the enjoyment of others, because let's face it, if you were doing it for yourself, you would keep it in a journal by your bedside or in a document on your computer that you could visit at your own personal, private convenience. So why do you feel that you can just ignore, insult and quite frankly slap your readers in the face?

If you don't give a shit, please keep it to yourself. If you don't give your readers the time of day, keep it in your journal. If you blatantaly tell your readers that you dont give a shit, well, fuck that. That shit leaves a sour taste in my mouth as a reader and I will kiss your fucking story goodbye, no matter how much I enjoyed it, or followed it.

When I read a story, I put my very best effort into my comments. I want you to know exactly how I felt every step of the way, I want you to know that you moved me, I want you to see how excited I am to keep reading. And most importantly, it is my way to thank you for giving me such an awesome read, thanking you for your hard work in developing a great story.

And I say this, because I am a writer. When I posted my story...I loved each and every review I ever got...I responded to them, I interacted with them, and each one was important to me. They took the time to read the shit I wrote and tell me what they thought about it. That was awesome...a true high. It may sound cliche, but honestly, it spurred me to continue.

But I respected each and every reader I had. No, I didn't have THE MOST POPULAR story, never claimed to, but it was satisfying to me. I didn't write to have the most reviews, I wrote for that one review. And I got a lot more than one. And I was grateful for every one. If it ended up being just one reader that followed my entire story, great! If it ended up being 100...even better..but that one was just as important as the other 99.

That being said, I just can't see how an author can be so....so...disrespectful to people that they are asking to read their story...if it's posted, you want people to read it, right? That's the same thing as asking.

If I see a message like that, I will pass right by the story, no matter how highly recommended it came to me. And the sad thing about that? The author doesn't fucking care.

So thanks to all of you that have cleared up so much of my reading time for other things with your pissy ass attitudes.

Now on a positive note...Thank you to all the writers that actually give a shit...thank you for keeping your ideas going, for showing your readers the appreciation they deserve. And most importantly, thanks for the fuckawesome stories! I love getting lost in the story, the characters and forget the shit in my real life, that makes a good read for me.

There is way more good than bad out there, but when you come across the bad, it really sours a whole bunch.

Thanks to the GOOD...Fuck the BAD.

Eclipse...Srsly CANT WAIT

Today I am dedicating my humble post to Eclipse. Saying that I am "excited" for the release this summer is a disgusting understatement.

There a ton of things being released...photos...videos....screencaps...and I hear there is even merchandise already showing up in Walmarts. It is going to be a loooong few months until the realease!

So, I was taking a shower today and this scene came to me. Like it really happened. I stood in the shower for a minute, rocked by the sudden vision, and the story that unfolded before me.

I am not a writer, I just play one on the internet, so be gentle....yadda yadda yadda

Here is part of the first chapter....

Power of Healing

Her head rested easily in my hands, her eyes barely focused on mine. I felt the warm moisture seeping through my fingertips, dripping a menacing pattern on my denim clad thigh.

I stared into her depths of chocolate that were so similar to my own, her face so battered, the blood covering most of her tanned skin.

“I love you,” her gravelly voice choked out. “I will always love you.”

I just stared at her. “I love you too,” I said, the tears tracing a ragged pattern down my cheeks, the tortured sob stuck in my throat. “Don’t go. Please stay with me,” I pleaded, my fingers rubbing lightly over her torn flesh.

I watched silently as a smile played on her lips. “You will always be my baby. My little girl.” Her smile faltered and disappeared, replaced with pain. “ Bella, I’m tired, and it hurts so bad.”

The sob ripped from my chest. “I know mom. I know. You hold on. Stay with me! The ambulance is here. They will help you,” I all but shouted at her.

I saw her wince as she tried to reach for my hand, her hand falling limply to her side in defeat. I quickly slid my other hand in hers, squeezing gently, wanting to pass all of my love to her through the contact of our skin.

Her eyes fluttered closed, the smile frozen on her lips. “Mom. MOM!” I yelled, willing the paramedics to take over, to save her.

A breath escaped as she opened them again. “He’s gone, Bella. I know that. Phil is gone. I want to be with him,” she sighed. “I am so proud of you,” she rasped, coughing, her body convulsing. “I just want to close my eyes. Just for a minute.”

I squeezed her hand, and watched the life die out of her eyes as they fluttered closed for the last time, her breath ceasing with a sickening gurgle in her chest, the blood dripping languidly from her mouth. The gentle grasp of her hand relented, her fingers went slack.

I froze.

Her hand still in mine.

Her bloodied head lay in my lap, the tears streamed down my face as I held her now lifeless body in my grasp.

“Miss. Miss!” I felt warm hands on my shoulders, pulling her out of my hands. I numbly scooted back, letting them tend to my mom.

I watched as they worked tirelessly over her lifeless body, her shoulders jerking with each push on her chest, a whooshing sound departing from her lips.

Their words were jumbled to me, their medical terminology beyond my realm of understanding. But I understood one thing.

“You want to call it?”

“Time of death, 22:13.”

There was no mistaking the meaning of that.

My eyes rested on my shoes as the tears poured generously down my cheeks, dripping on my jeans, mixing with the dark patterns of her blood already soaked there. I couldn’t bring myself to look at Renee. I saw her smile, the glimmer of light in her eyes, that is the memory I wanted.

I noticed a dark, slow pool of liquid slithering towards me, breaking and weaving with every texture in the pavement. My eyes followed the lazy path as it came to rest at the tip of my shoe, breaking over the pointed front of my leather boot.

The dizziness consumed me, the blackness clouded my waning vision. I saw the paramedic rush to me as my world went dark.

I know it's short, but I told you it was just a part of it.

CAN'T. STOP. LAUGHING.

Okay, so today was a useless day for me, literally.

I sat at my computer most of the day, with the basket of clean, unfolded laundry that is so hopelessly wrinkled I might as well wash it again, next to me, and all three of my kids running around like maniacs as there was no school today.

So I spent some time on FaceBook with Jess taking stupid ass quizzes and laughing our asses off.

Apparently, I am only 42% awesomeness, if I were a Barbie Doll, I would be Trailer-Park Barbie, my hippie name is Freedom Daisy Sunshine, my parents should've named me Brooke, and I will die by tripping over a stick, hitting my head on a rock and slipping in the river and drowning - Oh! But at least I am not a fuckwit!

So yeah, overall, a productive morning! Then my friend LauraCullen sent me a video that someone sent to her, that started this fuckery of a blog post. I have no idea where this came from or who even found it, but lo and behold this shit ALWAYS finds its way into my inbox! And I must say, I am forever grateful for that! :)

Soooooooo of course, after watching that several times, with all this time on my hands, and feeling so inspired by that video, I had to go searching for more funny shit that made me laugh.

And...surprise! I found a few things that made me cry tears of laughter.

There is something so awesome and infectious about watching someone laugh so hard. I have seriously given my ABS quite the workout laughing so hard at that the fuckery that is on the internet!

There are a shitload of funny ones out there, but I wanted to keep them short as I am sure you all don't have the damn time to sit here for an hour and watch them.

And I don't mean to pick on the News Folk, but damn, that shit is live and really fucking funny! I really felt so juvenile today laughing at other people's fuck-ups, but I just couldn't help myself.

So today I was looking around the internet for vulgar smiliey's to use in my messenger and other various programs...you know, mostly ones giving the finger, or cursing - 'cause apparently I have way too much time on my hands and I think that would be pretty funny. And beware those of you I have on messenger, I found a few!

And somehow, some way, I came across something so ridiculous it made me laugh, and had to find more stupid shit that made me laugh.

Now, I am no politician (thank the good Lord above) and I can't confirm that these are actually true, still in practice, or just some crazy people with nothing better to do than make shit up, but I still had to laugh and share.

DUMBEST STATE LAWS EVER:

Believe me...no state is exempt, but I obviously can't / won't list them all, but you get the drift.

New Mexico: Females are strictly forbidden to appear unshaven in public.

Illinois: It is illegal for anyone to give lighted cigars to dogs, cats, or any other domesticated animals. *snickers*

Florida: Women may be fined for falling asleep under a hair dryer, as can the salon owner.

Michigan: Alligators may not be tied to fire hydrants.

Texas: It is illegal to milk another persons cow.

Ohio: It is illegal to display colored chickens for sale.

M'kay, you can imagine the fuckery I have seen while researching this...literally, my eyes are tearing from laughter at some of the stupid shit I read. I mean can you imagine being the douche of a politician that actually tries to get one of these passed? *shakes head*

Its all in good fun, I am sure most of them are stupid wastes of my time, but fuck, I got a good laugh and hope you did too.

So today I decided to have a little change of pace.

Instead of bitching, cause honestly, that shits giving me an ulcer, I am just having a random moment. IKR? A great change!

So today I had to work, well, I don't really have a full time job, just do some shit cleaning for extra money. So while I was sweating over a dirty floor, scrubbing the shit out of it, this song came on my ipod..."Melody" by Kate Earl.

So when I got my ipod a year ago, I loaded some of the music I had, the Twilight Soundtrack, of course, and some other shit. Anyway, when I was browsing around itunes, I found the free download list and was stoked! I mean, really...who isn't in love with free shit? And the fact is, I really suck when it comes to music....literally. I am what you would call musically challenged.

So, that is how I found out about this song. So today I was cleaning, as I said earlier, scrubbing someone's bathroom floor, irritated as fuck, this song came on. And I immediately perked up, 'cause the vibe is so catchy.

And I started to get in such a good mood, amidst the smelly bathroom. This led to the natural progession of those things I love. I have been so fucking clouded in shit, and feeling really crummy that I totes ran with this good feeling, thus....this blog was born.

First of all, let me get the introductions done...I am Lindz, obviously. I am a mom of three kids...boys no less all 6 and under, so you can imagine the shit that goes on in my daily life, but thats all for another day.

*So not me....She's pretty even pulling out her damn hair!

I am married and have been for a few years, yeah, my babies' daddy and all. I have a lot of interests, mostly on the creative end. I enjoy learning new shit and am mostly self taught. I have a bachelors in English Lit but have NEVER used the $20,000 piece of paper that took me too many years to get.

I spend way too many hours on the computer writing, reading, chatting and now fucking blogging. I seriously can't believe the number of social networks that are out there, and that I am a part of. Srsly...If I cant find you on FB, then its Twitter, then messenger, then good ol' MS, but if I want to, I can find anyone.

I have met a ton of really cool people and some have come to mean a lot to me, yeah, online and no, they are not middle aged old men getting off. And if they are, well, they are fun to talk to and they make me laugh, so whatever.
